That being said, for someone of my age and perspective, it is as much a matter of lifestyle as livelihood. Absolutely. It is a terrific lifestyle. However, as you know, many freelancers have a second regular job, perhaps a working wife, or on retirement income of some sort. The guys down in the trenches, vis a vis this discussion, are the freelancers who do nothing else, are relatively young and maybe raising a family. At one time I was on the staff at F&S, selling a ton of freelance stuff... more than I really wanted to do... and I know the writing income sure would not have supported my lifestyle at the time..... maybe $35-40K gross some 15 years ago. Film costs, travel costs (regardless of any comps), etc. ate up a good part of it. It is a tough profession, no doubt about it. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe--I would set the bar, income-wise, a bit lower, but not much. In the $75,000-$100,000 p. a. range. That being said, for someone of my age and perspective, it is as much a matter of lifestyle as livelihood. Jim Casada |
