At the September 27-28 meeting of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission, in Nashville, several amendments to the proposed fishing regulations were discussed. These amendments, as well as other proposed changes in the fishing regulations, will be considered by the Commission at its October 24-25 meeting in Chattanooga. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is asking for public comments on these proposed changes for the October Commission meeting. The amendments include: Sport Fishing Kentucky Reservoir - Increase the minimum length limit on sauger, from 14 inches to 15 inches, to conform with the statewide sauger minimum length limit of 15 inches. Cherokee Reservoir - Designate a closed fishing zone from July 15 to September 15. This zone would be from the boat ramp at the south end of the dam across the lake to Point 2, from Point 2 to Point 3, and from Point 3 back across the lake to the TWRA boat ramp at the north end of the dam. All bank fishing will be open and the coves along the southeast shoreline will be open to boat fishing, but no fishing for any species will be allowed in the described zone from July 15 to September 15. Also, change the current 14 inch-2 under length restriction on largemouth and smallmouth bass to a 15 inch minimum length limit. Commercial Fishing Lake Barkley - Establish a contract commercial fishery, similar to that proposed for Cheatham Reservoir, to obtain information on harvest and effort. The data provided will address concerns on the harvest of striped bass, sauger, and catfish. The Commission will review available data on this issue at the October meeting in Chattanooga. Wholesale Fish Dealers and Commercial Fishermen Require that wholesale fish dealers and commercial fishermen contact the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency within 5 days of the purchase of their license so that required forms can be sent to them.
