Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife and Heritage Division will hold four regional public information meetings regarding proposed hunting and trapping regulations for both the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 hunting license years, DNR Secretary Sarah Taylor-Rogers announced today. Proposed regulations will be announced by the DNR Wildlife and Heritage Division on March 3. "These meetings provide an opportunity for interested citizens to comment on proposed regulations and their comments are welcomed and encouraged," said Secretary Taylor-Rogers. "Citizen participation is a vital aspect of the decision-making process. We encourage everyone with an interest in hunting and trapping regulations to attend our meetings, or provide written comment." DNR wildlife biologists will make presentations regarding proposed hunting regulations for resident game species, including deer, forest game, upland game and furbearers at the meetings. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on proposed hunting season dates for select migratory game birds, including mourning dove, woodcock, resident Canada geese (September season only) and teal (September season only). Biologists will discuss the status of game populations, ongoing research activities and management considerations. All public informational meetings will begin at 7 p.m. on the following dates at these locations: * TUESDAY, MARCH 21: Easton High School, Easton. Directions: Traveling east on Route 50 turn right onto Dutchman^s Lane; traveling west on Route 50 turn left onto Dutchman^s Lane. Take the first left onto Mecklenburg Avenue. Easton High School will be on your left. The meeting will be held in the school cafeteria. * THURSDAY, MARCH 23: Annapolis Senior High School, 2700 Riva Road in Annapolis. Directions: From Route 50, take Exit 22 (Route 665) to Riva Road exit. Turn right on Riva Road and go approximately 8/10 of a mile. Turn right at Arundel Olympic Swim Center. The school is in the rear on the left. The meeting will be held in the school cafeteria. * TUESDAY, MARCH 28: Westminister (tentatively scheduled for Westminster High School). * THURSDAY, MARCH 30: Cash Valley Elementary School, LaVale. Directions: From I-68 west or I-68 east, take Vocke Road exit. Follow Vocke Road north to intersection of Route 40 east and Vocke Road. Turn right at signal onto Route 40 east. Follow Rt. 40 east approximately 1.5 miles. Make a left at signal onto Cash Valley Road. Go one mile and the school will be located on the left. Following consideration of public comment, the DNR Wildlife and Heritage Division will present proposed regulations to Maryland^s Wildlife Advisory Commission on April 19.
