A total of $20,000 in funds authorized by the 1999 Minnesota Legislature are available for a grant to develop a bear center business plan, marketing study, facility predesign and exhibit design. Proposals are being sought by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) from local units of government or private organizations interested in establishing a bear center to provide information, education, research, study and/or tourism activities related to bears. For a copy of the Request for Proposals and additional information about this grant, contact Wayne Sames of the DNR Local Grants Unit at (651) 296-1567. Proposals must be received by the Local Grants Unit no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Proposals must be addressed or delivered to: Wayne Sames, DNR Local Grants Unit, Box 10, 500 Lafayette Rd., St. Paul, MN 55155-4010.
