Vermont deer hunters can expect another spectacular November deer hunting season according to the Fish & Wildlife Department. Vermont^s deer population has grown steadily in recent years due to mild winters. The deer population is now estimated between 140,000 and 150,000 animals. Last year, 83,022 residents and 13,527 nonresidents bought hunting licenses with buck tags, and 10,547 or 12.7 percent of them bagged a buck. "With good weather, hunters should harvest close to the same number of deer again this year," he added. Vermont^s buck hunting season is November 13 - November 28. Hunting hours are one half hour before sunrise to one half hour after sunset. Wearing florescent orange clothing is not mandatory in Vermont, but it is recommended. "A florescent orange hat and vest will provide basic coverage in most situations," said Eric Nuse, hunter education officer. "We highly recommend hunters wear orange in order to prevent mistaken for game accidents from occurring." "The greatest number of deer tend to be found in the southwest, southeast, east-central and northwestern regions of the state," says Buck. "The biggest bucks hang out in the Northeast Kingdom and in Green Mountain Range running up the center of the state." A hunting license costs $14.00 for residents and $80.00 for nonresidents. Licenses are available from close to 500 locations statewide.
