Archery and muzzleloader hunters face the frightening prospect of not having a hunting permit if they do not buy validations by midnight on Halloween, October 31.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game reminds hunters that the sale of archery and muzzleloader permits are cut off after October 31 each year. Any person hunting in an archery-only or muzzleloader-only season, including controlled hunts, must have in possession their license with the appropriate archery or muzzleloader validation. This includes the archery and muzzleloader segments of the seasons included in the new dual (A and B) tag system.
This measure was requested by Idaho archery and muzzleloader organizations several years ago as a way to raise the proficiency level in those forms of hunting. The cutoff prevents hunters inexperienced with primitive weapons from hurrying to buy permits because they are unsuccessful in earlier hunts.
Changing to the new computerized licensing system several years ago eliminated the actual sticky stamps once issued as archery and muzzleloader permits. The new system simply issues an updated license including a validation for the permits. The validation is included in the "Sportsman^s Package" license.
