LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners will amend boating, fishing and wildlife regulations and take action on a variety of other issues at a meeting at Commission Headquarters in Lincoln beginning at 8:00 a.m., Oct. 22.
During the meeting, the Commissioners will conduct four public hearings, including an 8:30 a.m. hearing to amend boating regulations, a 9:00 a.m. hearing to adopt changes in fisheries regulations, a 9:30 a.m. hearing to amend wildlife regulations pertaining to nontoxic shot, and a 10:00 a.m. hearing to amend wildlife regulations pertaining to antelope, deer and elk.
The Commissioners will also consider a staff recommendation to make small increases in the rental of some cabins at Fort Robinson State Park, Lewis & Clark State Recreation Area and Niobrara State Park. At Fort Robinson SP the daily fee for a one bed lodge room would increase from $30 to $35 and a two bed lodge room would increase from $35 to $40; the rental for a two bedroom cabin at Lewis & Clark SRA would be $70; and at Niobrara SP the fee for a two bedroom cabin would increase from $60 to $70 and the fee for a three bedroom cabin would increase from $70 to $80.
The Commissioners will also:
* consider a staff recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January 14 meeting to amend general regulations governing administration and use of property;
* consider a staff recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January 14 meeting to amend public use regulations for the Salt Valley Reservoirs;
* consider a staff recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January 14 meeting to consider regulations governing protection, conservation and management of endangered wildlife species;
* consider a staff recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January 14 meeting to establish opening dates for the 2000 hunting seasons for non-migratory game species; set the 2000 spring turkey season; and establish permit application dates for deer, antelope, elk and turkey;
* consider a staff recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January 14 meeting to consider amendments to regulations for a late winter light goose season;
* consider a staff recommendation requesting approval of WILD Nebraska, a revised program for delivering cooperative assistance for wildlife habitat on private lands;
* receive a report from staff on urban encroachment of wildlife management areas;
* consider a staff recommendation to authorize the agency to accept the Fort Niobrara Wildlife Refuge longhorn herd if it is offered to the State of Nebraska;
* consider a staff recommendation to approve a resolution to enter into a lease agreement with the Lower Platte North Natural Resources District to operate and maintain Lake Wanahoo multiple use area in Saunders County for the purposes of operating and maintaining the recreational resources when the reservoir has been acquired, developed and designated open for public use, contingent upon Legislative approval and funding;
* consider a staff recommendation to approve a request made by the managers of North Shore Lodge at Lake McConaughy for permission to sell wine and spirits;
* consider a recommendation to approve funding, not to exceed $16,000, for construction of a handicap accessible fishing pier at the North Park Lake in the City of Holdrege;
* consider a staff recommendation to amend the existing agreement with the Mirage Flats Irrigation District pertaining to Box Butte Reservoir;
* consider a staff recommendation regarding filing of a Quiet Title Action in Burt County to clear an improper legal description for Middle Decatur Bend Wildlife Management Area so the Corp of Engineers can obtain an easement and the habitat restoration project can proceed.
