There are still plenty of deer permits available in 17 units for the 1999 deer hunting season and hunters may purchase them over the counter at Game and Parks Commission permitting offices across the state. Permits are being sold on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the remainder of the permitting process from offices in Alliance, Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, Bassett, Kearney, Lincoln, Norfolk, North Platte and Omaha. Hunters are allowed two permits that allow the harvest of an antlered deer (buck-only or either-sex permits), including muzzleloader and archery permits. Second firearm permits of this type may be purchased now. Two additional permits can be obtained that allow only the harvest of antlerless deer. Hunters who do not yet have a permit of this type can purchase one at any time. . Permits for the DeSoto Early Antlerless, DeSoto Late, Blue, Buffalo, Elkhorn, Frenchman, Frenchman Antlerless, Loup East, Missouri, Plains, Platte, Republican, Sandhills, South Republican Late, Wahoo and Statewide Buck Only management units are sold out.
