CLYDE -- On August 28, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the National Bowhunter Education Foundation will sponsor bowhunter education student courses in three Kansas towns. Clyde will host a course at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hall; Dodge City will host a course at Dodge City Community College; and a course will be conducted in Topeka at T.H.E Archery, 97th and Old Highway 75. These classes will satisfy the requirements for a bowhunter education course, mandated by state law, that allows 12- and 13-year-old archers to bowhunt deer if they complete both bowhunter education and hunter education courses. Course topics include tree stand safety, bowhunter ethics, shot placement and selection, landowner relations, and other codes of proper outdoor conduct. In addition to meeting Kansas requirements, the bowhunter education course satisfies requirements of other states and Canadian provinces that mandate bowhunter education. Registration for the Clyde course begins at 8:30 a.m., and the class will run until 5:30 p.m. Students without transportation should bring a sack lunch. For more information and to pre-register, phone Brian Marks at (785) 243-3828 or Greg Dockins at (785) 446-3419.
