Springfield, VA-GMCO Maps & Charts, of Springfield, VA announced the release of its newest chart, the All New GMCO Pro Series map of the "Tidal James River." Company President, George Martin, said, "after many years of talking to fishermen and recreational boaters, it was very apparent that there was a need and want for a more detailed chart of the James River, especially the section from Richmond to the Chickahominy River." The "Tidal James River" Pro Series covers from Richmond to Jordan Point, at a larger scale of 1:30,000, and from Jordan Point to the Chickahominy River at a scale of 1:40,000, according to Martin. "This allows GMCO to show a lot more detail." He added that this should help not only the recreational boater, but also the fisherman that is looking for that special spot." "As with all our maps and charts, we try to show the most up-to-date aids to navigation and water depths," Martin said. "However, these are subject to frequent changes due to Mother Nature and man." Some of the special features GMCO shows are a 30-second, LAT./LONG. grid, which can be used with GPS, a lot of local names that have been given to both land and water features over the years, and tidal differences for calculating tides. The GMCO Pro Series is printed on synthetic paper that makes the map 100 percent waterproof and weatherproof. You can write on it with a ballpoint pen or a fine permanent marker to record special information. GMCO makes maps of the Chickahominy and Rappahannock rivers, Buggs Island (Kerr) Reservoir and others. GMCO maps and charts can be found at your local tackle and boat supply stores, or you can call GMCO at 888-420-6277.
